We are right in some of the most difficult sections to read in the Bible. In Leviticus 15-17 we read about cleansings and washings and unclean things and holy things. We are told of things that make us to unclean to come to the synagogue or temple for worship. Some of these things are simply natural body functions or unavoidable diseases. In spite of the fact that in many cases the individual person didn’t do anything that appears to be wrong and yet they find themselves unclean. We get a glimpse here of how the holy cannot touch the common. The pure must be separated from the impure. Boy God sure seams picky. But in reality He is not picky he’s gracious, because the unclean would not be able to survive in His presence. You might say why doesn’t God just make it so that the common can come into His presence. We’ll he did. It took more than a snap of his fingers whoever to accomplish this. Because Holy cannot become unholy in order for the common to have access to Him. So God had a plan all along but it would have to be at a great price. The holy would have to take upon himself the worlds unholy in one act of love that would forever change what is to be holy before God. In other words as the Paul put it in 2 Cor. 5:21 “He who knew no sin, became sin for us that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” So keep trekking through those lists of ceremonial washings and thank God we don’t have to do those temporary cleansings for momentary coverings of our sins because we have been washed forever clean by the blood of Jesus Christ.
